Family Law Property Valuation
Property Valuations Australia provides family law property valuations in NSW, VIC, ACT and NT, with a Family Law & Legal Valuation quoted for each matter from $1,650 incl. GST. A valuation can cover the family home or other property for separation, mediation or property settlement, and we tell you in writing whether we can take the matter on before anything is agreed.

When you need a valuation
In a property settlement after separation, the value of the home and any other property is often the largest number in the agreement. If you and your former partner agree on a value, an agreed figure or a jointly commissioned valuation is often enough. If you cannot agree, an independent valuation is the usual way through.
Single expert valuations
If the matter goes to court, the court’s rules prefer, where practicable, a single expert witness jointly instructed by both parties, rather than one valuer for each side (Part 7.1 of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Family Law) Rules 2021). That court hears family law matters in New South Wales, Victoria, the ACT and the Northern Territory.
A valuation can be at today’s date or at an agreed past date, such as the date of separation.
Fees
A Family Law & Legal Valuation is quoted for each matter, from $1,650 including GST. Expert witness work, conferences, supplementary reports and court attendance are not included: ask us first, and we tell you in writing whether we can take them on.
A business in the property pool needs a business valuation, not a property valuation. Family Law Valuations, also part of Valuation Group, values businesses for family law matters.

Questions people ask
Do we each need our own valuer?
Not usually. Many couples agree on one independent valuer, and if the matter goes to court the rules prefer, where practicable, a single expert jointly instructed by both parties.
Can the valuation be at the date of separation?
Yes. A past date can be agreed, and the property is valued as it was on that date using sales evidence from around then.
How much does a family law property valuation cost?
A Family Law & Legal Valuation is quoted for each matter, from $1,650 including GST. Expert witness work, conferences and court attendance are not included.
